Colorado Grand Vintage Vehicle Tour 09/15/2010
We will meet at the Village Inn at 12622 W Ken Caryl, Littleton, CO. This location is just East of Ken Cryl and C-470 in Littleton. We'll leave from the parking lot no later then 9:00 AM to meet the Colorado Grand Cars by 11:30 AM. Come early if you wish to eat Breakfast at the Village Inn. Suggested arrival time for breackfast is 8:00 AM.
The race is for 1961 and older sports and vintage race cars and covers 1000 miles of Colorado’s mountain roads. The race is limited to 75 vehicles, and you will see some real classics, including many Mercedes-Benz vehicles. In past years vehicles have been shipped in from around the world just for this race. The Mercedes-Benz Classic Center is a sponsor and usually brings out a classic vehicle or two for the race.
We will catch up with the race vehicles as they are being parked for lunch and any necessary repairs in Salida. You’ll be able to wander around the vehicles and talk to the drivers and support crews. Lunch will be available for purchase atthe event or at nearby restaurants. Proceeds from this remarkable event provide serious support for Colorado charitiesin the communities that the race passes through.
No reservations are required. Remember to bring your camera for some great photos. MHS Social 09/15/2010

MHS Board Meeting 10/14/2010
Quarterly Drive 10/16/2010
October 16, 2010—Quarterly Drive
Join us as we visit a site of Cold War History
Former Atlas-E Missile Silo - Greeley
The MHS is planning its next quarterly drive for October 16, 2010. We plan to visit andtour a former Atlas-E missile silo just 10 miles from Greeley. Built in the 1960’s, the site’s inhabitant was the first ICBM intercontinental ballistic missile set in the ground. The missile coffin held a four megaton bomb (500 times more powerful than the bomb dropped in Hiroshima during WWII). A 9-man crew stayed on site for 24 hours then rotated back to Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne. In the event the area was bombed, the silo could act as a shelter (holding around 2,300 people). Soon after the Cold War the missile was removed.
Start time, route plans, and lunch details are still being worked out. Watch the MHS website and the October issue of The Constellation
for more information. There will be no charge to participate in the drive; however, participants will be responsible for costs (if any) to tour the silo, and the cost of their lunch.
The Quarterly Drives have been a huge success – something different each time. We don’t want to run out of ideas. We found about the silo in recent news articles. We always need volunteers to coordinate drives and we welcome your suggestions for future drives. For more information about our quarterly drives contact Reiner Haubold at 303-986-5035 or reinbold1@comcast.net. Annual Members Meeting 11/06/2010
The Mile-High Section will hold its annual Members Meeting and election of Officers and Board members at the Fresh Fish Company, 7800 E. Hampden Ave., Denver, on November 6, 2010. Cocktails start at 5:00 PM with a cash bar, followed by dinner, selected from their extensive menu. There is no charge to attend the annual members meeting, but you are responsible for the cost of your meal.
Reservations for the dinner meeting are required and can be made via the registration form in this issue of the Constellation. Following dinner, the MHS will hold its annual general members meeting, followed by election of new and returning members to the Section’s Board of Directors. The only requirement to be a Section Board member is being a current Section member in good standing with MBCA and MHS. A couple of Board members have stepped down in the past year. Please consider offering your services to your club by running for the Board. Club officers are chosen by the Board of Directors from the elected Board Members.
If you are interested in running for a Board of Directors position or would like to know more about being a Board member, contact MHS President Jay Hokanson at 303-935-8270 or by letting any current Board member know.
We encourage all MHS members to come to the annual Members Meeting and hear what is happening in your club and provide input for the items that will be on the agenda. If you would like to add an item for discussion at the meeting, please send a short message by November 1, 2010 to Jay Hokanson at jhokanso@comcast.net.
